Drug Overdose Deaths in the US, 2017

According to a recent study by the National Health Institute, the United States now has more than twice the premature overdose death rate than that of other wealthy nations.
A record number of nearly 72,000 Americans died from drug overdose deaths in 2017 (CDC estimates).
The opioid epidemic is largely to blame for this trend, with fentanyl causing over half of all overdose deaths in 2016.
